Kalakand Recipe

"Namaste", "Sat-Sri-Akal", "As-salamu Alaykum", "Hello"!!

To my readers, welcome back to Comfort Food Creator! We are back again with a new delicacy. This gluten free sweet-dish is a must try. The name of the recipe is - "Kalakand." It is one of the most popular dessert in both north and eastern India. Traditionally, Kalakand is made with just three main ingredients - Milk, Sugar and Paneer. This creamy sweet-dish is really popular during Indian festivals. In this recipe, we will bring a slight variation by using a can of sweetened condensed milk instead of regular milk and sugar.

This Kalakand recipe is ea
sy to customize and can also be made with added flavours. In our recipe, we have used cardamon powder and chopped pistachios, so as to give a rich flavour. The sweet/mithai shops across India has been selling this dish for a long period of time. This 15 minutes instant recipe is perfect for making last minute desserts. If you're planning a house party or a dinner, this has to be you go to recipe.

Kalakand in particular as a dessert is an integral part of Indian families. It also forms a base for other Indian desserts. Originated from the city of Alwar in Rajasthan, Kalakand has also been introduced in many royal families. To a more creamy version of this recipe can be seen in cities of Bihar like Koderma.

For this recipe, we will be using Chenna/Homemade-Paneer. It is very easy to make Chenna at home. For 500 grams of Chenna, we need 1litre of milk, 1tbsp lemon juice and 2tbsp water. Bring milk to bowl and turn off the flame. Now add the lemon juice diluted in water to it. Mix it with a ladle, and you will see milk is starting to curdle and the whey will separate. Now strain it with the help of a muslin cloth or a strainer and our Chenna/Homemade-Paneer is ready.

This Chenna forms an important part in our recipe. Now let's move forward and see what we require for this epic Kalakand drama.

Ingredients Required:

  1. 1/2kg Chenna/Paneer (crumbled)
  2. 2tbsp milk powder
  3. 400ml condensed milk
  4. 1tbsp cardamon powder
  5. 1tbsp chopped pistachios
