Crunchy Coconut Prawns

 "Namaste", "Sat-Sri-Akal", "As-salamu Alaykum", "Hello"!!

Hello readers! Comfort Food Creator is back again with a new drama. This time we are taking a deep-sea dive to look for some prawns. Seafood has always been popular in the Indian states of Goa, West Bengal and Kerala. It has been a dominating force in the food industry for a long period of time. Be it the Goan cuisine or the Bengali cuisine, Fish has always been considered an important item in the menu. Today's recipe has a fusion of Indian & Canadian cuisine. This is for sure, will be a go to appetizer dish in your next house party.

The name of the dish is called - "Crunchy Coconut Prawns." An appetizer where the prawns are marinated with Indian spices, dipped in flour-egg mixture and coated with coconut-bread crumbs. These are then deep fried and served with a sweet chilli dip on side. This dish has been really popular in cities of Toronto & Sarnia. These juicy coconut prawns has always been my favourite. Especially if I'm going to a seafood restaurant, this has to be my go to starter. These juicy prawns will surely make your mouth drool.

In the post-covid era, I have been tied up to my home. Home has always been the most comfortable place for me to enjoy a meal. I still remember trying these prawns in a lounge back in Sarnia called "Brownstones." So I thought, let's get this dish to the kitchen of Comfort Food Creator.

Crunchy Coconut Prawns will surely give you flavours in every bite you take. To make it more authentic, I've also made a small sweet chilli dip on side. Now let see, how are we gonna make this juicy and crunchy coconut prawns. It's really easy to make and also doesn't take much time.

Preparation Time - 20 minutes

Serves - 3

How do we make it?

  1. Firstly, peel and clean the prawns nicely. Make sure to keep the tip off the tails on for presentation. Now we will add 1tsp salt, 1tsp red chilli powder and 1tsp black pepper to it. Mix it nicely and keep aside.
  2. Now will take another bowl and beat 2 eggs in it. Add 1tsp salt and black pepper respectively to it. Beat it nicely.
  3. In another bowl, add 4tbsp flour and keep it aside.
  4. Now we will take 3/4 cup of bread crumbs and 1/2 cup shredded sweetened coconut. Will mix it nicely in a bowl and keep it aside.
  5. It's time to heat some oil for the prawns to be deep fried. Take a Skillet or Kadai and add two cups oil. Will keep the flame high, so that the oil heats up in the next 3-4 minutes.
  6. Now will take the prawns one by one and coat it with the flour nicely. Dip it in the egg mixture one by one. Now coat it with the coconut-bread crumbs mixture.
  7. Deep fry the coconut shrimps in batches of 6-7. Fry the bottom part for 2-3 minutes and then flip it. Now cook the other half for another 2-3 minutes. Make sure the prawns are not crowded or they don't stick to each other.
  8. Now keep the fried coconut prawns in a plate lined with a paper towel while you fry the rest.
  9. Serve a sweet chilli dip on side with these crunchy and juicy coconut prawns.
